Local “quick thinking” first responders rescued five people after their boat crashed into rocks amid some choppy water Sunday night, according to the Nahant police and fire departments.
Nahant Police received reports at about 7:46 p.m. of a vessel crashing into the rocks along the East Point Cliffs. The boat was taking on water, according to reports.
The Harbormaster boat was deployed to the scene, and upon arrival, firefighters entered the water and made their way toward the lodged vessel.
Five people were safely removed from their boat, were loaded onto the Harbormaster boat, and then brought back to the Town Wharf for evaluation.
One person was transported to an area hospital. There were no other reported injuries.
The boat on Monday was still lodged on the rocks at East Point. The U.S. Coast Guard and SeaTow were assessing options for towing.
“I want to commend everyone for their valiant efforts in this rescue,” Police Chief Timothy Furlong said in a statement. “Severe thunderstorms Sunday resulted in slightly choppy water making it difficult to navigate, but thanks to the quick thinking and vigilant efforts of our first responders everyone made it out safely.”
