The MIAA Baseball Committee met this morning and approved the baseball tournament format. It now goes to the Tournament Management Committee for future approval.

During the meeting, there was a brief discussion about the possibility of playing at Fenway Park in the future. MIAA assistant director and baseball liaison Keith Brouillard said the folks at Fenway said it was tough between concerts and the Red Sox but said they have not closed the door on future dialogue. While Brouillard said initial reports from the inaugural statewide tournament were good, he promised that future Super 8 discussions will be on the table.

The meeting commenced with the election of Tom O’Brien as chairman of the MIAA Baseball Committee. Dick Newton was named the vice chairman and Mike Denise was named committee secretary.

There were several rules proposals voted on by the committee. The most newsworthy votes were 11-0-1 against out-of-season coaching and a 10-1 vote against pushing the start of the winter and spring seasons back a week.
