Low and brassy resonance brought Christmas cheer again this year to busy Downtown Crossing’s annual “Tuba Christmas.”
The instrument usually carries the low-end in an orchestra’s brass section to lay down a floor for the higher-register instruments, but 100 local tuba players didn’t need anyone else to bring the melody as Boston conducts its Christmas shopping and gets into the spirit.
Players young and old of tuba and euphonium — the tenor-voiced member of the tuba family — came to Downtown Crossing from across New England to play Christmas carols for their 48th year, according to DowntownBoston.org.
