BOYS BASKETBALL

Matthew St. Martin paced the offense with 20 points, while Malachi Bryant and Ryan Higgins added 16 points apiece as Catholic Memorial (1-0) staved off a late rally for a 71-68 victory over nonleague foe Weymouth. The win was the 350th of Knights coach Denis Tobin’s career… Senior captain Sam Griffin erupted for 31 points, helping to propel Boston Latin during a 57-48 win over Roxbury Prep…Senior Matt Richardson finished with 29 points Friday, including the game-winning three-pointer with two seconds remaining as Masconomet edged Tewksbury, 67-64.

Freshman Zach Martin scored 15 points, while sophomore Jackson Rocco finished with 11 as Monomoy (1-0) downed Upper Cape 55-38 in the Cape and Islands League.

Alex Krynicki poured in 29 points, guiding Bishop Connolly to a 79-29 Mayflower League win over Diman.

Sophomore guard Dalton Kinnon drilled seven three-pointers on his way to a 28-point performance, carrying Mystic Valley to a 68-42 victory over Nashoba in the Commonwealth Athletic Conference. … Senior captain Aiden MacLeod had 12 points, while sophomores Franck Moron and Matt Breen registered 11 each for Shawsheen in a 66-50 win over Whittier.

In the Independent School League, Orlagh Gormley eclipsed 1,000 points for her career, as Dexter-Southfield defeated rival Thayer, 48-26…Hannah Bernstein scored 16 points, and Madeline Egan added a spark with 12 points herself as BB&N (2-1) defeated Middlesex 41-31.

In a nonleague contest, sophomore Bella Sulfaro tallied 15 points to go with six boards as Blue Hills (1-0) opened its season with a 32-20 victory over South Shore Voke. … Hialeah Turner Foster dominated with 42 points to lead Mashpee (1-0) to a 58-36 win over St. John Paul II. … Niya Morgen dropped 17 points, helping to propel St. Mary’s (Lynn) (1-0) during a close 50-48 victory over Woburn. … Emily Collins (23 points and 11 rebounds) and Claire English (18 points and 12 rebounds) each posted double-doubles to help Winchester (1-0) to a 54-37 win over Waltham, while Tatum Kentish’s seven steals led the defense…Senior Ashleigh Johnson finished with 18 points, while sophomore Julia Grimes netted 15 as Carver (1-0) coasted past Fairhaven, 52-28. … Mia Molinari put up 25 points to pace Millis (1-0) to a 51-26 victory over Lunenburg… Catherine Antwi (21 points) and Brynn Johnson (14 points) combined to finish 6-of-6 from the free throw stripe in the closing moments, rallying Lowell Catholic past Essex Tech, 46-43. … Emma Cochrane (19 points) and Taryn Fierri (18 points) led the attack, as Norton rolled to a 60-28 win over Seekonk. … Meg Doyle scored 13 points and Callie Flynn pitched in 12 points to help Weymouth grind to a 46-38 victory over Brockton.

Sam Salmans recorded 22 points, while Elise Carter and Eliana Jackson finished with 15 apiece for Archbishop Williams (1-0) in a 52-46 win over Notre Dame (Hingham) in the Catholic Central League.

Tatum DeMarco drained a buzzer-beating three-pointer to lift Concord-Carlisle to a 53-52 Dual County League victory over Cambridge.

BOYS HOCKEY

Shane Taddia, Kevin Delay, and Brady Kudrick found the net for Thayer (1-0) in a 3-1 win over Winchendon in a nonleague game.

GIRLS HOCKEY

Sophomore Morgan McGathey scored twice for Thayer (1-0) in a 4-0 nonleague win over Portsmouth Abbey (RI).
