‘AVATAR: THE WAY OF WATER’

Rated PG-13 for sequences of strong violence and intense action, partial nudity and some strong language.

What it’s about: The follow-up to James Cameron’s sensation 13 years in the making, “The Way of Water” follows Jake Sully and his Na’vi family as they seek sanctuary in the tropical island paradise of Pandora, and fight against Col. Quaritch, who has come back as an avatar seeking revenge.

The kid attractor factor: The action-adventure and pure spectacle will draw kids.

Good lessons/bad lessons: Family can be your greatest weakness because it is also your greatest strength. Find communion and connection in living in harmony with nature.

Violence: Action and peril throughout, fighting and intense battles. Shooting machine guns, arrows, spears, crashing, explosions, etc. Killing animals and some deaths. Underwater danger including animal attacks and almost drowning.

Language: A few instances of swearing.

Sex: None, but the Na’vi and their human best friend don’t wear much clothing.

Drugs: None

Parents’ advisory: This is a thrilling and spectacular adventure for the whole family, but it is quite violent, so take care with younger kids.

‘PUSS IN BOOTS: THE LAST WISH’

What it’s about: The popular character, as featured in the “Shrek” movies, gets a sequel to his spinoff that turns into a fairy tale/nursery rhyme remix adventure.

Rated PG for action/violence, rude humor/language, and some scary moments.

The kid attractor factor: It’s animated, plus fairy-tale characters.

Good lessons/bad lessons: Wishing for more for yourself deprives you of the connection you might find with others. Enjoy what you already have.

Violence: Some cartoon action and peril — sword fighting and such.

Language: No swearing but some naughty humor.

Sex: None

Drugs: None

Parents’ advisory: A really fun and creative animated film to please adults and kids.
