Make New Year’s Eve festivities into a great night in

[ad_1]

Last week we offered a guide to dressing for a New Year’s Eve out on the town. This week, we’re planning for a great night in. It’s still fun and festive, just smaller and more cozy.

Pick your guests, stock your pantry, and let the party begin:

With the girlfriends:  First, this calls for something amazing like peppermint martinis (in a pitcher, mix equal parts vanilla vodka and peppermint schnapps with a few ice cubes to chill, and then use up those leftover candy canes from Christmas by crushing them on a plate and dipping martini glasses upside-down, to create a colorful, sweet rim before pouring the cocktail). Add a spa environment to the mix. While you’re throwing on some jazz,  put out a few good sheet masks — I love the Cold Plasma Plus+ Concentrated Treatment Sheet Mask ($19 on ultra.com). Tie the luxe fun together with martinis and snazzy plates of great takeout from Boston’s Little Whale. The restaurant’s doing takeout for the evening (toasttab.com/grand-tour/v3/), with starters like bluefish dip and sautéed littleneck clams, and lobster rolls with warm butter that’s as delicious as the hot goss you’ll be sharing.

The romance package: You’re in love. So why spend time with the New Year’s Eve masses? Sometimes the best night of the year is made even more so by being with someone you truly love, uninterrupted. So curl up with some cozy-yet-sexy hangout duds like Natori’s Shangri-La Jersey Tank Nightgown ($88 on neimanmarcus.com) for you. And for him: the cashmere Henry Tencel Modal Short PJ Set ($128 on eberjey.com). Grab the TV remote, some couch space, and a takeout menu promising aphrodisiacs –  Moondance Oysters with yuzu kosho mignonette, trout roe, and cilantro, anyone? Yes, please –  (myersandchang.com) . All that and a super warm blanket like The Tartan Blanket Co’s ($110 on us.tartanblanketco.com), made of 70% recycled wool by a family-owned Scottish company? What else do you seriously need?

The family circus: Get your nearest and dearest by your side for New Year’s Eve. This gathering isn’t about  fashion and cocktails, but food, comfort, and love. So order up whatever your family’s favorite takeout dinner is, and yes, bring on the matching flannel family pajamas. I do not always condone this practice, for the record. But if you’re going to do it, do it right. Go for the gold with organic combed cotton rib knit Hug & Hearts Matching Family Pajamas (starting at $38 for one piece, on up on hannaandersson.com). Then pop the popcorn—make it extra-delish with shaved parmesan cheese and truffle oil ($19.95 on stonewallkitchen.com)—and stream “It’s a Wonderful Life.” And if there’s a dry eye left in the house after that, indulge in divine, sweet dreams-inducing cookies from Levain (levainbakery.com/pages/boston), which bakes up—and delivers—deeply delicious batches of ‘dark chocolate chocolate chip,’ and so many more.

Happy New Year!
