A Mercedes veered across Lynn Fells Parkway in Melrose late Sunday night, killing the driver and injuring two people in another car.
The Massachusetts State Police responded to reports of the four-vehicle accident at 11:30 p.m. Sunday.
The preliminary investigation found that a 2015 Mercedes CLS sedan heading westbound on the parkway had crossed into the eastbound side of the road.
The vehicle reportedly struck a 2013 Volkswagen Jetta with two occupants and veered further left, hitting a tree and then two unoccupied SUVs in a nearby driveway.
The Mercedes driver, a 41-year-old man from Randolph, had died by the time the police arrived. His name has not been released.
The Jetta occupants, a 61-year-old woman and a 46-year-old man from Saugus, suffered minor injuries in the crash and were taken to Melrose-Wakefield Hospital.
The roadway remained closed at the site for four hours following the crash.
The accident remains under investigation by State Police.
