The Patriots summoned a couple of reinforcements for Sunday’s season opener against the Miami Dolphins.
Wide receiver Lil’ Jordan Humphrey, who was a standout during the preseason, has been elevated from the practice squad along with linebacker Harvey Langi.
With Jakobi Meyers (knee) and Ty Mongomery (ankle) both listed as “questionable” on the injury report, bringing Humphrey up for the game provides some insurance in a couple of areas.
Humphrey, who is 6-foot-4, 225 pounds, not only adds depth at receiver, but also at tight end, where the Patriots only carry two (Hunter Henry, Jonnu Smith) on the active roster.
Humphrey was also a special teams contributor, and could contribute there as well.
That’s also where Langi figures to have a role, along with providing depth at linebacker.
As standard elevations, Humphrey and Langi will not need to pass through waivers and will revert back to the practice squad after Week 1, leaving both players with two more standard elevations this season.
