Splash out on great gear for pool, beach or backyard fun

Want to kick your summer outdoor sessions up a notch? A trip to the beach, pool, a deck or even a decked-out fire escape calls for creature comforts. Luckily, we’re rounded up some great picks.

For the pool: The Poolmaster Refreshment Float ($42.99 on With six beverage pockets and spacious center for ice or snacks, this adorable float is decked out with garnish designs. I love that once you load it up and put it in the water, you won’t have to leave the pool until your fingers and toes get wrinkly.

Or take beverage holders to a smaller, more individual level with these, which are as good in the hot tub pool as in the pool: Fruit Inflatable Beverage Floats ($6.99 for three, As cool as they are cute, each one is shaped and designed as a different slice of fruit — lime, watermelon or pineapple.

For the backyard (with or without a pool): The Mushroom Sprinkler ($47 on transforms any space into a cool spot for hot weather play. Actually, it makes it into an Alice In Wonderland summer fantasy. The trippy blow-up mushrooms are sprinklers that stay upright (thanks to a water-filled base), even when bopped, and spray from the top of the mushroom in two different directions.

For the beach: You’re going to need a seat that’s easy to get there, but also has you relaxed and supported enough that you don’t regret leaving home. The Beach Chair in Nouveau Bleu Stripe ($65 on is incredibly lightweight and sports a cushy foam insert. It’s also water resistant and — best of all — has six adjustable settings, so you can sit upright, lay back or recline completely. Moreover, it comes in a pretty, light blue-and-white stripe that brings to mind long beach days on the Côte d’Azur.

And refreshments? Whether you’re planting yourself on a seaside beach or a riverbank, there are certain coolers that simply outdo themselves. The Rachael Ray Jumbo Chillout Thermal Tote ($24.99 on is one of them. It zips right up and is lined with Triple-Tek foam insulation and Temperfoil lining, so food and beverages retain hot or cold temperature for hours. And even though it’s big enough to carry a baking dish, it still folds up neatly.

If you’re biking to your destination, keep an eye on the CHILLER 28-Can Soft-Sided Backpack Cooler ($29.99 on The backpack has padded shoulder and waist straps, and it’s outside design is made from recycled polyester fibers. (So: Bonus points for the planet.) Inside, you’re looking at mesh pockets for storing ice packs and other extras, and welded seams so it’s pretty much guaranteed to be leak-proof.

For any kind of water fun: The Tie Dye Tube ($59 for 2 on is a psychedelic, blowup inner tube with pastel and neon hues, updating the classic tie dye print. Throw it in the pool, tote it along to the beach, or your next low-key river tubing. It inflates without a fuss, and looks as cool as you will in your swimsuit, sitting on it.
