Turning hot and humid with possible thunderstorms

Don’t get too comfortable with these pleasant weekend temperatures.

It’s about to feel much more like July in the next few days, as the National Weather Service predicts increasing heat and humidity for the Boston area, along with daily opportunities for rain showers and thunderstorms.

“We’re going to start to feel the humidity go up,” Alan Dunham, meteorologist at the National Weather Service’s Boston office, told the Herald on Sunday.

After a beautiful end to the weekend with comfortable temps and low humidity, Monday should be sunny in the mid-80s for most of the region. Those low dewpoints in the 40s on Sunday will also be replaced by increasingly moist but still comfortable air.

Then more heat and humidity return for Tuesday and Wednesday, as temps approach the 90s.

“It’s going to get muggy and hot,” Dunham said.

While dry most of this time, a risk for showers and thunderstorms still exists, especially for Tuesday. A few stronger storms will be possible late Tuesday into Tuesday night.
